Baggage

The free baggage allowance applicable to an adult passenger and children whose fare is at least 50% of the adult fare will be one piece at no more than 23 kilos or 50 pounds. Infants are allowed one piece at 10 kilo's of free baggage allowance. Air Safety Regulations do not permit the carriage of cabin baggage within the passenger cabin unless its dimensions permit it to be stored under the passenger seat. Each adult or child passenger is permitted one standard piece of carryon luggage subject to a maximum weight of 3 kilos or 6 pounds (Twin-otter Aircraft) or 7 Kilo’s or 15 pounds . Maximum size, cabin baggage templates are available at some check-in desks.

In addition to the free baggage allowance a passenger may carry free of charge, any of the personal articles listed below:

  • A lady's handbag, pocketbook or purse, i.e. which is appropriate to normal travelling dress and is not being used as a container for the transportation of articles which should otherwise be regarded as baggage
  • An overcoat, wrap or blanket.
  • An umbrella or walking stick.
  • A small camera and/or a pair of binoculars.
  • A reasonable amount of reading matter for the flight.
  • A fully collapsible disabled person's wheelchair and/or crutches, and/or braces or other prosthetic device for the passenger's use.
  • Certain items such as, infant carrying baskets or carrycots, wheelchairs and walking aids other than sticks or crutches must be labeled and stowed in the checked baggage compartment.

Note: An infant carrying basket or bassinet will not be transported in the aircraft cabin unless the size of the basket or the bassinet will permit it being secured by a seat belt and a seat is reserved for the infant and a child's fare paid. Cabin bags, briefcases, ladies vanity or cosmetic cases are not included in the free personal articles list. These items and others which do not visibly accord with the description of personal articles must be weighed and such weight included in the total baggage weight.

Excess / oversized / overweight baggage may be accommodated subject to space and the payment of the applicable charges. During certain peak times and for travel to/from certain markets excess baggage is not accepted under any circumstances. To avoid excess baggage charges all baggage must meet specified requirements. No item of checked baggage may exceed a weight of 23 kilos or 50 pounds or an overall dimension (L+W+H) of sixty two (62) inches.

Baggage in excess of the free allowance will be subject to an excess baggage charge.

No single item weighing more than seventy pounds will be accepted as checked baggage. Passengers are generally restricted to two pieces of checked baggage per person.

MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS
Musical instruments are not included in passengers free baggage allowance. Normal excess baggage charges apply to the total weight of the instruments and are accepted on a space available basis only.

GOLF EQUIPMENT
There is no special charge for golfing equipment. Golf bags are accepted as a part of a passenger's free baggage allowance.

BICYCLES
WINAIR accepts bicycles which are disassembled and properly packed for carriage. The weight is not included in the passenger's free baggage allowance and therefore bicycles are subject to a charge of USD50.00. Bicycles will only be accepted on a space available basis. To ensure easy storage in the aircraft holds, the front wheels of the bicycle should be removed and attached to the frame; the pedals turned inwards, the saddle and handlebars lowered and placed in line with the frame (i.e. handlebars turned sideways) and the pressure released from the tires.

SURF BOARDS
Due to the size of the aircraft holds, Winair is not able to accept Surf Boards on our flights

Extra pieces of baggage (that is pieces in excess of the above allowance) will be subject to excess baggage charges and will only be accepted on a space available (standby) basis. Perishable items will not be accepted as standby baggage.

ALL EXCESS BAGS WILL BE TAGGED AS STANDBY

Baggage taken on a standby basis will be accepted with the understanding that WINAIR is not liable for delays in the transportation of the baggage to its destination. Also WINAIR will not accept responsibility for the customs clearance and/or the ground transportation cost incurred by passengers for the collection of stand by baggage.
